Mindful Meditative Art FREE LESSON

I'm going to start instructing Meditative art classes for kids and adults. This is one of the 5-week programs I plan to follow.

You can branch from this program and use other canvases or backgrounds but I will be using upcycled books as our base for this class.

Here is a FREE Mindful Art Lesson Plan

Week 1: Introduction to Blackout Poetry & Mindful Creativity

Theme: "Finding Meaning in the Chaos"

Activities: Introduction to blackout poetry (history, purpose, and examples).

Guided meditation on slowing down and noticing words.

Practice: Start with simple blackout poetry using random pages.

Reflection: What emotions or thoughts surfaced?

Week 2: Layering Art & Emotion

Theme: "Visualizing Feelings"

Activities:

Discussion: How do colors, shapes, and textures influence emotions?

Practice: Use paint, ink washes, or colored pencils to enhance the blackout poetry—bringing the words to life visually.

Experimentation with mood-based color schemes.

Reflection: How did adding color shift the meaning or feel of your work?

Week 3: Collage & Mixed Media

Theme: "Reconstructing Meaning"

Activities:

Explore collage as a method of layering meaning.

Practice: Cut and paste text from different pages to build poetry.

Use torn paper, magazines, and different textures to create depth in blackout poetry.

Reflection: What unexpected connections emerged from this process?

Week 4: Found Objects & Alternative Materials

Theme: "Poetry Beyond the Page"

Activities:

Explore how poetry can exist off the page (on fabric, wood, glass, or even digital formats).

Practice: Create a blackout poem using a non-traditional surface or medium.

Optional: Bring a personal object and integrate words into it.

Reflection: How does the medium change the impact of the words?

Week 5: Personal Projects & Sharing

Theme: "Your Story, Your Art"

Activities:

Participants create a final piece that integrates the techniques they've explored.

Optional: Create a small collaborative piece with another student.

Group discussion and reflection: How has this process deepened mindfulness or self-expression?

Celebrate with an informal showcase of everyone’s work.

Also, this is the vibe I love to set while arting out.
