Colorado Holds My Heart
I wrote this blog weeks ago while we were visiting Colorado and as I grow this blog I may jump back and forth in time to share moments and thoughts that have spurred me forward. This is one...
Colorado holds my heart in a way unlike anywhere else. Every time we come back, I’m reminded of my initial feelings of coming home. I remember arriving and realizing I felt more like myself here than anywhere else. That feeling has changed over time, but every visit brings those emotions rushing back.
Today, we wake up, and I feel the warmth of the sun on my face—a comforting start to the day. We decide to drive to Red Rocks, a place that never fails to amaze me. Since we all had pneumonia not long ago, hiking isn’t an option. Instead, we take the road up to the upper parking lot. We step out to stretch our legs, use the restroom, and take in the breathtaking views.
Even though we’re not venturing far, being here feels like a homecoming. Colorado continues to remind me of the sense of peace and belonging I felt when I first arrived.
This state is full of breathtaking places to explore. From the towering peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park to the serene beauty of the Great Sand Dunes, there’s no shortage of awe-inspiring destinations. Garden of the Gods, with its dramatic red rock formations, is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors. The Maroon Bells in Aspen, often called the most photographed mountains in North America, are high on my list of places to experience fully.
And then there’s hiking—one of the best ways to connect with Colorado’s natural beauty. Some trails feel like a challenge to my current fitness, but they also inspire me. I dream of one day hiking to the top of Mount Bierstadt or the iconic Longs Peak. I imagine standing at the summit, looking out over the world, knowing I earned that moment through hard work and persistence. Trails like the Hanging Lake hike and Sky Pond in Rocky Mountain National Park are also calling to me.
These aspirations fuel the health journey I’m on now. It’s not just about looking or feeling better—it’s about being able to step into these moments fully. Colorado doesn’t just hold my heart; it motivates me to become my best self so I can explore and appreciate every corner of its beauty.
